George Clooney to Make Broadway Debut in Film Adaptation

In 2005, George Clooney directed, co-wrote, and starred in Good Night, and Good Luck. Now, he’s rebooting himself. Clooney will make his Broadway debut in a new adaptation of GNGL, playing Edward R. Murrow, it was revealed on May 13. David Strathairn played Murrow in the original film, while Clooney played Fred W. Friendly, the co-producer of Murrow’s show See It Now. Additionally, Clooney is leaving directing the play to the stage professionals — David Cromer, a Broadway vet who won a Tony for The Band’s Visit, will take the lead. GNGL follows Murrow, a TV journalist, as he opposes Senator Joseph McCarthy’s Communist Party hearings. Clooney will again co-pen the script alongside Grant Heslov.

“I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to,” Clooney said in a statement. The production will premiere in spring 2025 in a to-be-announced Shubert theater. We hope Clooney doesn’t find the Broadway schedule too tiring, but if he does, he can always pick up some me-Nespresso.
